IS helps give you better results, I would choose it on a lens but it all depends on what you are doing what you are shooting, handheld or tripod. Tripod you don't need to spend the cash on IS

I am not too sure what can be achieved for what money, probably under £500 for the moment, or start with smaller kit and then add to it later

I mainly shoot outside or use my Canon 580 speedlite MK I I would like to get studio setup, can anybody recommend what equipment I should be looking at to get me started, and that I can add to it later if needed Trying to do it without breaking the bank at the moment.

There are some good books for your camera model to explain all the controls, try and avoid shooting in full auto and try and use the creative controls "P" "Av" etc, good luck and enjoy

I would use Adobe Photoshop it will open the RAW file let you fine tune it then open it up and save in any format you like.

I actually prefer the older memory cards, my canon takes the CF Compact flash and I think they are much more solid, it actually puts me off upgrading and going to SD card

1100D is the entry level canon model now so second hand should be quite cheap, or the older canon 1000D as the entry level or as you say move up to 400D, 450D, 600D and then to pro consumer 20D, 30D, 40D
