thanks ivan , maybe they don't show them all through the viewfinder , couldn't remember if my d90 did or not . i contacted a friend who checked his Nikon ( not sure what model ) he says even in shutter priority mode all the small boxes show up and then they light up when focusing like it...

Hope its ok to change subject. Recently got a d7000 and when using shutter or apature priority the only focus point that lights up in viewfinder is the centre one regardless of wether im using single or multiple focus points. It shows correctly on the lcd screen but not in viewfinder...

Cheers , yeah it does have the lock and defo of. Been through the manuel and am stumped. Other focus points show up in auto mode but nothing in other modes.

I can see the single point move on LCD screen but the only that ever works in viewfinder is the centre point.
