I got SE Plus 8 supplied with the scanner. I have tried the Silverfast forum, no substantive reply after 6 days. I have had answers but nothing helpful.
I am just trying Vuescan and so far I can't find a feature for negatives on the trial version.
I can see why anyone might choose to stop...
I have just bought an Epson V750 and am having real problems with Silverfast. The problems are:
The old version Epson supplied is pretty unstable with frequent crashes and hangs. The latest version of Silverfast generates an error R6025 and crashes. I suspect a memory problem of some kind and...
I am using Silverfast SE plus 8 to scan batches of negatives. Can anyone tell me an easy way to scan a batch with file type set to JPEG, with Repair on and with film type set?
Am I right in thinking:
The Workflow method will not allow me to do it all.....
If I use the manual method, I have to...
I shot my first movie today. A couple of problems sprang up immediately which were:
The .MOV files a Canon EOS camera produces are huge...2 GB for minutes. The picture and sound quality is good though. Is there any way to reduce the enormous file size? Can I convert a movie to something...
I am looking for an Epson V750 on ebay and I wondered if anyone could tell me:
The models on eBay are quoted as 6400 dpi and those on epson and amazon are quoted as 6400 / 9600 dpi. Are these models the same or are the ones on ebay older with lower resolution?
what is the difference between...
There is a very helpful technical guy called Steve @ Kenro, the Reflecta Distributor who provided some very helpful information about scanning 5 negatives at 3600 DPI on a Reflecta RPS 7200:
Scanning 5 with software 30 secs Preview plus 4 minutes full scan (i.e. One minute each )
Scanning 5...
I am thinking about buying a Reflecta RPS 7200. (The alternative is an Epson V750.) I reckon I would be finished with it in two months. There are a couple of sticking points.
Would the Reflecta RPS give much better quality than an Epson 750?
If I buy the Reflecta new what would it be worth...
A lot of interesting posts here, many thanks to all. I think I will check out Vuescan and AI. It looks like the no brainer choice may be Vuescan Pro.
Does anyone if Silverfast AI can be sold to new owner without additional charges if I sell the scanner?
It would not surprise me if Silverfast force a re-registration or re-purchase. It will definitely take months with Silverfast, its tricky to figure out how it works first time.
I did look at a CoolScan, the thing is Nikon no longer make and supports them. So if they need to be repaired...
I downloaded Silverfast SE with a possible view to buying AI later if I need it....this is what I found:
Could not get the trial copy to work the way hoped. The product has no meaningful email or other support. It has lots of FAQs which don't tell you what you need to know in an attempt to...
I like the idea of a deal with other folks. Given the range of choices I wonder how easy it would be to agree make / model. I would almost certainly sell the unit after a month.
As a test, I took some negatives to be scanned at a local Happy Snaps and got a bit of a surprise. The ones done on...
Thanks for comments so far. I should have mentioned the lens is for an EOS 700 aka Rebel t5i which is crop frame. I believe some of the lenses in the 24-70 range are designed for full frame, so might be wise choice.
Canon do two really hot zoom lenses - the 17-55 mm f2.8 and the 24-70 mm f2.8. Both cost an arm and a leg.
What other lenses are good alternatives for either of these?
Might try and get something good on ebay.
Still not made a decision largely because of the enormity of the task - scanning 2/3000 negatives - and not having much idea of the quality of the hardware or software....perhaps I need to bite the bullet or go to Happy Snaps to get an idea of how many quality and speed marks I should award each...
