    longevity

Not really the same. Nobody had to make an effort to keep the photos. They were just there, in the wardrobe or the old drawer or a box in the attic. You would have to be pro-active with digital information in order to keep re-storing it. It's not that the 'facebook' people wouldn't want to...

    longevity

The point I was making originally was that when we had a neg and a print, it lasted a lifetime - barring accidents. We've got plenty of prints from Victorian times etc. No hard drive that's here now will be around in fifty years time. Indeed, methods of storage will evolve and will be something...

    longevity

whilst out shopping recently, I called into Max Spielmann with a friend who wanted a quick print of something in her 'phone and whilst we were waiting for a console to come free, I was talking to the assistant; asking her about the machine. I was surprised when she told me it was a laser...

    ipad

Not issues with flash. There just ain't any flash at all. If you look at a lot of photographers websites on Ipad, you can't see half of it because they insist on using flash. They don't seem to realise that all the world doesn't view everything on a PC. There are vast numbers of people who...

Idiots guide to a Weston lightmeter please.

You can't calibrate a Weston meter as such. What you should do is take a meter reading and then bracket some shots with your camera and see which comes out correctly and use that variable for future shots. Get a piece of card in the shot with the readings written on it so that you don't get...

    sharpness

The main thing - regardless of what lenses you use - is to take care what you focus on. If, for instance, it's an animal or a human, focus on the eyes and make sure you get them as sharp as possible. Psychologically, the whole thing will look a lot sharper if the eyes are clear and bright...

    Resizing quailty

I did the experiment. I downloaded an image used for testing printers full of fonts and crossed lines of all different sizes. I reduced it 6 times at 80% each time and then one time at 16% ( which is about the same reduction) The difference between the two was negligible and wouldn't be...

    Resizing quailty

I don't think he said what he's using. You may be right. It may not make too much difference these days but You get into habits over the years. I just tried both ways but can't see much difference. You'd need a very fine image with fine crossed lines or something to try it. I'll make one when...

    Resizing quailty

Do you reduce it all in one go? I've always reduced it several times by 80 or 90 percent until it gets to the physical size I want it. What size in mb is the original photo?

Adobe photoshop dosn't recognise psd files

Your getting confused. You can't open .psd files in paint and neither can you save as .psd either. As for jpg files, it's quite common to have them corrupted when copied onto a usb pen. There are endless posts about this via googling and nobody has come up with a surefire way to repair them...

motorbike girl . . . make do and mend.

Good idea. At the time though, it was an idea that just popped into my head and didn't have a bike ( or even a photo of a bike ) and didn't know how high a bike seat is. More preparation next time. Might have a go at a horse. . . . . . . .

motorbike girl . . . make do and mend.

Don't know what the bike is. It's just a stock pic. Size of bike seemed OK. If it was transformed bigger, her foot wouldn't reach the floor. Next time, I'd maybe bend the leg so it seemed to be on the the foot rest but trying to visualize it when you haven't done it before is pretty...

motorbike girl . . . make do and mend.

This lady loves motor bikes and would love to have a photo on one! Number one I don't have a motor bike or a suitable studio at present or a suitable amount of money for the job to hire anything so I put up a white sheet in her room and stood her aside a wooden chair with her arm out. Two...
