I don’t recall ever reading a bad word about the z mount 70-200, but apparently there’s a new version coming anyway! https://nikonrumors.com/2026/02/23/nikon-to-announce-the-rumored-nikkor-z-70-200mm-f-2-8-ii-lens-tonight.aspx/

Yeah, I’d be concerned spending a grand on a LAB lens right now, but would take the risk on a £200 TC that would only be occasional use anyway!

Anyone here an early acquirer of the new Viltrox z mount TC? I’ve never been able to justify the Nikon ones at that price point but the viltrox is much more appealing!

I’m going to go out on a limb and take a guess that this won’t be cheap: https://nikonrumors.com/2026/01/24/nikon-rumored-to-announce-a-new-nikkor-z-120-300mm-f-2-8-tc-lens-by-the-end-of-the-year.aspx/

I sold my 24-200 and got the 28-400. Love having a 400mm lens that you can carry all day and is so unobtrusive. I don’t think I’d take a lens with a widest length of 50mm as a ‘walkabout’ lens, so the Nikon was the obvious option for me. Obviously it has compromises, but for me being able to...

I have a one year old baby which has been the main reason none of my lenses have seen much action recently! But the 70-180 can fit upright into a small messenger bag while mounted to the camera, which just makes the carrying options so much easier.

The lion was taken on a 20mm lens?! You’re braver than I am by a county mile!!

No, but I have the Nikon 70-180 which I think is based on the first gen tamron, and really rate it! Don’t use it anywhere near as much as I should, but it’s so much smaller than the 70-200 models!

Can’t speak to the 135mm, but I had the Viltrox 85mm and it was very nice, but I ended up selling it purely as I found myself not using primes all that often. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Viltrox though!

Not pretty, but you can get some custom options on Etsy! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1858276371/camera-grip-for-nikon-z50ii-with-tripod?ref=share_v4_lx

How d How different did you find the bird specific mode vs the regular animals mode (which I think still recognised birds anyway if I remember correctly) ?

I have a 70-180 f/2.8 z and really like it. So much smaller than the 70-200 f/2.8, no need for an FTZ, and apparently it’s also weather sealed. Might suit you needs if you don’t desperately need the 180-200mm range?

Hard to know when the list is that long what are the major update points, and what's just general tweaking!

I’d love an 120-300 f/2.8, was a big fan of the sigma one back in the day! And with an RRP of £100 ideally instead of the £10k+ for the F-mount version would be nice.

New version of the 24-70 f/2.8 coming apparently. Not too sure what they’ll improve as I thought the original was meant to be pretty knockout? I don’t suppose ‘making it half the price’ is on the list of requirements from Nikon design HQ...
