Help understanding how to shoot through fence

Or a good quality DSLR with a lens that goes out to f2.8? My personal choice. And yes, I have use BOTH methods. Wide open, high shutter speed, head on. Ultra slow stopped right down, pan. Both work. VERY different images.

    Silverstone viewpoints..?

I thought you were. I've seen geezers with 600 f4s on D3, or 1Ds, and pitied them. Not that I wasn't jealous as all get out, but I still pitied them!

    Advice for panning shots

Go Slower. Shoot LOTS. That seems to be the recipe most folks use. I have got shots I like at 1/8, hand held, of LMP1s at Spa, top bat through Blanchimont. 2, out of maybe 300...

    Silverstone viewpoints..?

I've shot all over Sillystone, inside and out, through, over, and under, and round the fences. Sometimes even the RIGHT side of it. I treat it as intellectual stimulation! THINK, don't just point, and shoot. Those talking lens sizes? Are you running 35mm sensors, or what? On crop bodies, 500mm...

    Stratford Upon Avon

The RSC, and the gardens next door, are all undergoing renovation right now... The canal basin is pretty much inaccessible. ~In fact I think they have the lock gates off for a rebuild too! If you have transport, then there is LOADS of stuff within 30 minutes drive. What sort of things are you...

    24mm Prime which one.

Seek out a Zuiko 21mm f2. I cannot find one for my old OM bodies, they're all on Canon 1Ds...

    new lens which one?

That 100mm refers to the focal length of the lens, NOT the minimum focal distance. I suspect you are getting VERY confused here? There are no wide angle converters for DSLR lenses. Only 1.4, or 2X TELE converters, to give you more reach, at the cost of losing light. You get closer, but...

Why are so many of you on 1.6 crop cameras?

More of MY opinion here: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=1094129&postcount=48

can different sensors affect image sharpness?

The AA filter, the sensor, the lens, and the photographer, ALL affect the sharpness. There are a LOT of variables.

Why are so many of you on 1.6 crop cameras?

I've come to this debate very late, but here are a few thoughts, gathered from 4 years infighting on dpreview... Canon are finally addressing their corner sharpness, and bringing out new versions of existing lenses to address appalling QC issues from 3-4 years back. I regularly read, on CANON...

Do I really need DSLR ?

I've not read the rest of this thread, but you are going to struggle to match a DSLR to your spec, and price. I just bought a Nikon D50 USED for £150, with the 18-55 lens. So it's not very wide, it's not very long, but it's reasonably sharp. Mini me still uses his 'professionally'... One...

    Nicknames for Lenses

Hmmm. Maybe by kiddies on no money. I still rate 1.4s above 1.8s. And anyway, knowing Zuikos well, WHICH 50 are we talking about? There are umpteen version of the old Zuiko 50mm f1.8, so I assume the same holds for Nikon and/or Canon?

Friday Thoughts... 5D, 5D II, Other Brands, Etc

50mm lens reached optimum with Leica back in about 1947. They are all just minor variations of that formula, so cost next to nothing. OP? Buy a 50D, invest in L glass for THAT, THEN buy a 1D. Forget 5D...

    Nicknames for Lenses

Big Tuna - Zuiko 300 f2.8. What is this 'nifty fifty' of which you speak? I've just known that as 'standard' for 30 years!
