Striving for a clean clear sharp result. Any tips?

The 500D isn't the best at high ISO, but it's fine at ISO400 (if it's exposed correctly) Sometimes throwing more money at a problem just complicates things.

    The 'Process My Pic' Game.

It's the street where I live. I took the pic testing out a friends Sigma 10-24 wide angle Lens - sky was totally blown, but but I liked the angle. Your picture made me do weird double take !

Clever Camera Bag (for street togs)

You should always use your camera in plain view IMO - if yr not doing anything wrong, what have you got to hide ??

    Entry Level DSLR's

It's more than that - depends on models, but most shutters are rated at 50k to 100K+ it's also just a 'mean failure rate' so you could easily get 150k+ or maybe less than 50k. Just like a car really... If you do get a new camera with a Warranty, it's very unlikely to go wrong within the...

    Nifty fifty buggered?

It should stick out just less than a centimetre (from memory) when it's fully extended.

    Cannon 500D or Nikon D5000?

I had the same dilema before Christmas - ended up with the Canon 500D as well. Nice bit of kit - a few weeks later I realised that I'd have to get : Nifty 50, A decent Bag, Lens Cloth, Sensor Blower, filters, tripod, Flash,... Another decent(larger) bag that I should have got in the first...

Buying Digital Camera - Recommendations (SCENERY)?

It depends on how far you intend to take it really - if you must have a compact, then as someone else said, look into the Panasonic Lumix range The soon to be discontinued LX3 might be good value http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicDMCLX3/...

    nifty fifty

Absolutely unbeatable for the money. I used it in a family party under low light where 200+ flash shots wouldn't have been appropriate. Just couldn't have done it with the kit lens.

    New photographer after advice

The bigger the range you try to cover, the more compromises you will make in image quality, but you've got to start somewhere. I'd maybe go for the 18-55 IS Kit Lens and the Canon 50-250 IS , covers more range with slightly better quaility than the single 18-200 lens. You can get much better...

    Small 'Walkabout' bag wanted...

The smallest and cheapest option for your 500d is the TLZ mini from Lowepro. I had mine for a whopping £11.29 from Amazon about a month a go including delivery. Looks like they are still available at that price...

    what bag to buy?

I've got the Fastpack 200 - it's plenty big IMO. Fits the camera with kit lens, 2 medium zooms and possibly a wide. Room in top for a waterproof coat/food. I use it when I'm walking, but it's a bit too bulky to carry around everywhere, especially if you only need the camera & one lens. I also...
