The 40d is still a great camera and can be had for under £400 these days. Rosie

Tamron 28-75 f2.8 worth about £225 second hand is worth a look.

All a bit strange this...surely you can get the flash to work how you want with wireless ??

Wouldn't say it's better. Probably easier for novice's. I use the following settings as default...then adjust as necessary. Amount 100% Radius 1.4 Threshold 1 Don't forget that is just my start point!

OH uses a 100mm Macro for portrait and gets some nice results with it. Thought about a 60mm macro? I think they are a little cheaper, but not far off same length as a 100mm on FF. Rosie
