    Battery generators

The Innovatronix Explorer seem to get good reviews, although I haven't tried them myself.

    Basic Home Studio Backdrop/Lighting

How about using a lastolite hilite? Although pushing it, you could light it with one speedlight, plus you need a strobe head/speedlight + reflector to light subject. If you will use it once in a blue moon, then it might be cheaper to go to a studio!

    More trouble with 7dayshop.....

Aha, interesting you mention that! What was Nikon's/ Sony's response to problematic batteries? A recall/ extensive replacement programme, plus no doubt a full investigation of why it happened and how it can be avoided in the future. 7daysshop's response of my incident was.... SHRUG. What is a...

    More trouble with 7dayshop.....

Well unfortunately when I contacted 7dayshop they just shrugged their shoulders. It would have been nice if they offered me a tour of their supplier factory to reassure me that they take quality and safety seriously, and so that I can dispel my shred of evidence (or lack thereof as you say). It...

    More trouble with 7dayshop.....

Unfortunately not, it's not in the factory's interest to lose such a large client (7dayshop do shift a large number of batteries), and chinese industry is very secretive in general. For those who don't have experience in manufacturing, if a product fails a QC check, it doesn't mean it doesn't...

    More trouble with 7dayshop.....

Guys be very careful buying batteries from 7dayshop. This is what happened to me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bfenech/381952576/ The charger wasn't a fast charger and was from a reputable brand. The battery in the photo was welded in the charger, another one was projected to the other side of...

    Heating a large(ish) studio - any ideas!

Withs such a high ceiling heat from conventional convective radiators, and to a certain extent fan heaters, will just convect upwards and disappear, it would take a lot of energy to build the temperature gradient such that its 18 -20 at floor level. Long term solution: underfloor heating Short...

    Pixel King Hypersync Results!!!

The way I understand it is that the 600 and 1200 share the same battery and head housing, but different generators and flash tubes. You might be risking blowing the 600 tube if you run it off the A port of the 1200 at the setting No.5. Should be safe to use off the B port. Make sure you can...

    Pixel King Hypersync Results!!!

Cool! Can it be any optical slave (cheap ones on the bay), or are some better than others? These things must have some latency.

    Lighting stands

+1 Konig stands for speedlights with no modifiers For everything else air\spring damped with a top height ~0.5m more than your maximum required height. I'm happy with the air damped stand I got from CotswoldPhoto, although it hasn't been abused.

Strobe lighting rig for location shoots

An interesting discussion between Lencarta and Strobeam :) Priceless. Back on topic, has anyone come up with a clever way how to take advantage of the "bigger" generators of the Safari LiIon to lower the centre of gravity of a light stand on location? The best I've seen to date is using a...

    Pixel King Hypersync Results!!!

So if I understand correctly, PW do peak hypersync, Pixel do tail hypersync? Any triggers that do both? Also, PW say that they can deliver hypersync by storing timing info for many different camera (and strobe/flash?) models and you can tweak settings further yourself. Do the Kings also have...
