I don't know how accurate that exif data is but it says your shot was taken in landscape mode, this would try and set a small aperture to give large depth of field.
Try shooting in aperture priority with a low number such as f3.5 assuming kit lens. Also you might have to up the iso as your...
There are plenty of 40d v 50d threads on here I had the same decision a while ago.
50D swayed me as it has better iso range, extra mp for cropping, VGA resolution LCD which is awesome. Plus I got mine pretty cheap so couldnt not buy it.
Pretty much hit the nail on the head, 3rd party replica gear is just cloned in a factory in china, with little or no regards for quality, some stuff I don't mind buying copies of but anything electrical thats going to be attached to a £600 camera body its better to stick to genuine.

Any heavy dirt on the sensor then your looking at swabs...

I use an epson dx7450 and i'm more than happy with the results except the reds look a little magenta compared to whats on screen, what could i do to adjust this, would i do in the PP or in the printer settings?
Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 is quite a popular upgrade choice from the kit lens, its well built and pretty sharp, I love it as the range is great for a walkabout lens. There is also an image stabilizer version called OS by sigma.
