I'm not sure but if the sky is almost uniform in colour with no clouds, you won't see anything dramatic. Try taking the shot again at sunset with the sun coming into the corner of the image or setting on the horizon on a slightly cloudy day?

I feel that a smaller camera (not DSLR) helps a lot. Be friendly and smile if spotted and perhaps even show them your shot of the subject. I don't like sneaky shots. If you are worried of being spotted, use a slightly longer lens (50-80mm) but it won't have the same feel as a 24/30mm up close in...

I loved the 50mm on my Nikon and felt it allowed me to get closer into candid shots on the street without stepping in too much. Great when starting. I then moved to 30mm and 24mm which I preferred but the size and weight of 50mm is amazing.

Thanks, I think they might work on non-EOS bodies on MF which would be fine I guess. The 30D goes for around £300 on eBay. Is this a realistic price? My friend was more looking at £200 second-hand but again, I don't know if that's realistic as no clue with regard to Canons.

I can highly recommend the Lonely Planet guide books - you'll find most countries (even unpopular ones). The people who write the books are very experienced travelers and the information you get is priceless.

With any country you haven't visited before, read the guide! It's always good to know background information and local customs. Have fun!
