Can't comment about the sigma but the canon is excellant for the price and has IS. The canon performs above it's price range IMHO

Enjoy. I recently bought the TZ10 for our holiday to Florida as didn't want to take the dslr. Excellent if not a little slow to operate. GPS is good but uses battery quite quickly. Would suggest an extra battery to make sure you don't run out at the crucial moment. Andy

I'm in the same position. Am thinking about a Vivitar from Asda for £25 or one in Argos for £40 (Cant remember the make). Along with a neck strap seems like the best idea. If it doesnt bounce well not much lost!

I'm sure you have probably left now but Dixons in T3 had 7D's in stock last week so you may have a choice to make after all

Thanks to everyone who replied. I went back to the stores and handled them again including 50d as someone suggested. I coulnt find a 40d but assumed that they are a similar size and found them a little large for now. I also think the 500d is a bit small so the d90 seemed just right. I have...

I take the point of 500D vs D5000 but I dont like the screen or the feel of the D5000.
