The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Did a part-ex with a couple of Nikon lenses for the FE 28mm last week, then headed to Dorset at the first sign of clear skies. Conditions were perfect and the lens performed better than I could have hoped. This is a single 15 second exposure from my A7s, wide open (f/2) at ISO6400. Small, light...

Did you get sorted? I've recently made the decision to sell mine. About to list it in classifieds. ETA listing: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/sony-zeiss-fe-16-35mm-f-4-etc.650152/

South-West England Chesil beach - Milky Way

The coast from Swanage to Portland has become somewhat of an attraction for night sky photographers. Sure, the quality of the darkness is better through much of Wales or Scotland but Dorset is an accessible alternative. That said, Chesil Beach is largely featureless and *may* be affected by...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Used the GM 24-70 & 85 for literally a couple of snaps each at a Sony event earlier this week. Big but easy enough to get on terms with and not imbalanced, which is a little surprising given the diminutive size of the A7x bodies. 85 snapped to focus in -4 EV (according to subsequent exif) but I...

Using a flash near a road

Have done similar over the years: https://www.flickr.com/photos/andwhynot/2946734025/ As said by most other posters, you shouldn't have a problem affecting other drivers if you approach it with common sense as well as photographic ingenuity. The thing that's easy to overlook re long...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have a single EX-Pro and wouldn't buy another. Doesn't last as long in use- maybe a 10-15% shortfall against the Sony OE. The bigger issue, though, is that it doesn't hold its charge very well before use. At times it'll register a drop from 100% to 65-70% just from sitting in my case.

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have the FE 16-35 f/4 and it's great, as UWA zooms go. Minimal distortion and great sharpness right out to the corners. I still prefer primes at night, though, as the faster lenses help make the most of the EVF. At night, and especially in dark sky areas, the f/4 of the FE zooms can be quite...

Thanks. Looking at their listings I'm doubtful there'd be any difference to the one I've got already that doesn't mount properly. I think I need to find a dedicated Alpha E-mount adapter, rather than NEX E-mount.

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Evening folks. I've been an A7s shooter since October last year. I've long since sold my Nikon bodies but retained my Nikkor lenses and use these regularly on the Sony, via a cheap adapter. With the lunar eclipse looming I've been having problems sourcing an equivalent adapter to mount Canon EF...

Insuring an IPhone on your policy

I insure with Aaduki but they won't cover my phone. Never mind it being a business essential for comms, mine actually earns me money as part of my camera equipment. Tried explaining as much but there was no movement. Individual premiums looked poor value so took the gamble to not insure and just...

    Astrophotography

You're right, that is what I describe. At no point have I said otherwise or suggested that the horizon is brighter or not dark, just that there are fewer visible stars low down. (y)

    Night time Glastonbury Torr?

There's a decent level of darkness in the immediate area so star shots on a clear night are very achievable. Setting up, use a torch to help you focus (shine it on your subject: the Tor, I guess) and also use your light to find the corners of your frame when composing. You want the maximum...

    Astrophotography

It's not simply about light pollution. The same refractive, brightness-consuming qualities of the earth's atmosphere that make the sun seem dimmer at sunrise/ sunset also apply when you're looking along the horizon to see stars. Even pointing your camera out to sea, where there's a clean...

    Stonehenge and the milky way

I've booked once at 3pm to attend that night; a second time I booked on Thu/Fri to visit on Sunday *subject to weather* which proved sensible. It rained, so I just didn't go, then rang on the Monday and went that night instead. Can't say what'll work for you but if you phone them (rather than...
