You should think of the shortcomings of the kit lens you are trying to overcome. There's no point just buying a more expensive lens if its not offering you anything extra that you need.

I wrap mine up in a lee cleaning cloth and stick it in, attached to foundation kit, to the little black lee wallet/pouch that I think the foundation kit came in.

A 70-300 could well be a bit slow to capture fast action on a dimmly lit stage. You want something with a fast maximum aperture like your 50mm but its hard to say whether your 50mm will be long enough till you get there.

Ive taken a Tamrac expedition 8x on as hand baggage on an easyjet flight. It sort of does fit in the trial luggage racks with a little bit of squeezing but if someone wanted to complain it was too big i probably wouldnt be able to argue much..

Depends on which lens i use and what focal legnth at. Ive got the Heliopan polarizer which is thinner than the Lee I think.

The better the photograph comes out the camera the better it will take a bit of tweaking in post (generally speaking).

I think Canon are playing it safe with this range. Everything ive read so far hasn't experienced any problems with range.
