Sorry to hijack Jeffs post, I am contemplating a mac studio, some good deals about especially on the older Ultra models, its making my head spin comparing all the specs and I work in IT, good to know the M4 MAX is pretty much instant on Denoise.

Just checked the Nikon 300PF is 755g and tamron is 2050g, admitedly very different lenses but if you want super sharp and very lightweight you wont beat the 300 PF

Are you talking 300 PF Jeff or the original Nikon 300 F4? There is a significant difference in weight IMO

One of my favourite lens when I had a DSLR, had the 500PF too, since going mirrorless I replaced with Z 400 f4.5. The 300mm was great at close up too not just wildlife and stupidly light !

I did not realise you had picked up a Z8, I thought you still have the Z6II, you will be blown away by the Z8, its a great camera, I still have mine and love it, its my primary body.

I used a Z6III as a second body to mu Z8 in Scotland last year, the autofocus was as good as the Z8 its only the MP's that hold it back if you are a pixel peeper, the video is better on Z6III than the Z8 too if you want to do slowmo as think its 240fps, I would happily use the Z6III again.

The new 24-105 looks a great addition to the line up, at first I thought why as they have the amazing 24-120 F4 but looking at the specs its almost half the weight at 350g and not too expensive which tends to happen on newly released lenses

If it were wildlife, I’d suggest spending a day in a hide, that almost guarantees a good set of images and can really boost your mojo. For what you’ve described above, I’d imagine there are some social media groups focused on that kind of photography. Maybe you could arrange to meet a few...
