    Puffins on Skomer

    I got on the Island Saturday, weather was perfect and got some great shots. the 300mm f2.8 was perfect for about 80% of shots and the rest of the time it was my 70-200mm. just a great day out.

    I find the strap supplied not that comfy. I would recommend a 3rd party strap

    As above really. I upgraded from my 450d when I kept hitting the iso limit. But I wouldn't bother with the 50 1.4. The 1.8 is a lot cheaper and not a lot in it

    D300s is a good camera, but the 7D wins if you need to do heavy cropping

    Basic settings?

    I would shoot in AV with auto focus f7.1 and use the ISO to keep to 1/300. Shutter speed and ISO is always a bit of a balancing act

    which long lens ?

    I use the canon 300 f2.8 with the x1.4 or the x2 extenders. I find still takes a nice shot at 600mm f5.6. I thought about the 500mm f4 and budget wasn't an issue. but I like to take pictures as I walk about and the 300mm still lets me do this all day
