    50 1.8 prime

I tried out this lens but didn't go for it due to the lack of auto focus on my D3000. I've bought the 1.4 instead and it really is a great lens and I'm enjoying concentrating on composition. It was a lot more expensive though and had the 1.8 been AF compatible with my camera (or had I been...

    D3000 Auto Focus

I bought a 50mm 1.8 lens today and was disappointed when I realised it doesn't auto focus with my D3000. :( Are there any 50mm lenses that do auto focus and if not does anyone have any tips on using manual focus when shooting a fidgety child?! I'm very much a beginner and I find manual focus...

    0ut 0f Focus 52 - I may catch up one day!

Being naughty and skipped Week 10 Chemistry as I was at a complete loss! So this is Week 11 Candid (from the Morris Dancers) Plus in the interest of catching up I am bypassing Produce (just for now) to add week 13. I did a reshoot of Chopped while visiting Becky Falls in...

Right, got a camera, now what?

I have found the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson very informative. Definitely worth a read in between shooting.

    Tamron 70-300

I have a Tamron 70-300 for my D3000 but have found I end up with purple fringing on a lot of my images. Is there any way to avoid this at the longer focal lengths? Am I doing something to cause this? If not is there any comparable alternative considering I bought this lens as I wanted a...

    0ut 0f Focus 52 - I may catch up one day!

I'm determined to get all the past weeks themes done before doing present ones but have lost a bit of motivation recently. Having 2 jobs didn't help but I'm down to 1 again now so hopefully have more time for shooting! Thanks so much for all the comments so far. I was definitely not happy...

Week 7 - People Tried to catch some Morris Dancers today but it was really difficult. Most came out with people chopped in half or oof so this is best of a bad bunch!

Week 6 - Present Couldn't think of anything to shoot for this theme so out came the dictionary. Of course it was my plan to practice in Macro and not to wimp out of coming up with an idea for week 6!! :whistling:

Thank you! I was pleased with street as I'd never shot strangers before and was proud of myself for ignoring my embarrassment and the strange looks I was getting! Wow, thank you so much! Really wasn't expecting to get great comments like these. I hope no one thinks me rude...

Week 5 - Speed This was my first go at doing anything with a tripod and slow shutter speed so regardless of how bad the photo turned out I'm pleased I tried something new. Saying that I almost pooped myself at the top of the wobbly bridge! Didn't realise I was quite so scared of...
