Hi all I know it's a Chinese import but just wondered if anyone had used one of these motorised heads or could recommend similar, thanks

Arrived today. Looks bot bad however pan rotation is wrong direction. Lack of support, dont know how to change rotation direction :-/

Hi all I know it's a Chinese import but just wondered if anyone had used one of these motorised heads or could recommend similar, thanks
What do you want to know?

I use these to build roof mounted thermal imaging scanners
There are two ways to change the pan direction:
a. Open up the joystick remote control and swap the outer wires on the pan potentiometer. This will give correct directional control when using the joystick remote, but not the push button remote (and that remote cannot be reversed)
b. Open the pan and tilt and reverse 2 of the 4 wires on the pan motor.
This is a pretty major job and will require the removal of the adhesive label with all the specs for the unit - a hot air gun will probably be needed
Once the unit is open you'll find that the pan and tilt motors are 4 wire stepper motors connected to right angle gearboxes by toothed belts - the thing is built like a tank!
Anyway, to reverse the direction of the pan motor first use a resistance meter to measure the resistance between all 4 wires. You should finish up with 2 pairs of wires with each pair having a low resistance
For example, you measure a low resistance between (say) the red and black wires and a low resistance between (say) the yellow and green wires, but a high resistance between any other combination of wire colours (red to yellow, black to green etc)
To change the direction of rotation you can swap the red wire with the black wire OR swap the yellow wire with the green wire
Don't swap both pairs otherwise the direction of rotation will not change

Cheers

Hi Bruce, I just saw your post. I too have purchased a Zifon PT5000 for an R&D project which requires computer control of the gimbal. The good news is that I've made substantial progress reverse engineering the radio protocol and I'll be documenting it all on github. My hope is not to have to perform any surgery on the gimbal and just have a radio module hooked up to a Raspberry Pi to do the controlling. I'd be curious to hear about your experiences with the device.

btw, for anyone interested I've created this repo on github to document the Zifon PT5000: https://github.com/jdesbonnet/zifon_pt5000/

I hadn't heard of this before, so I looked it up.

It seemed surprisingly big to me, at least compared to my old Jessop branded electric pan and tilt head, shown here under my Nikon D600...
