Z6 + 24-70mm f4, is it "that" good?

It’s fabulous Dave
But it’s not a sport/wildlife camera
I love mine and I’m a fairly deliberate shooter.
Never had a problem focusing in AF-S.
AF-C can beat bit flakey, as is eye AF. They work, just not best in class.

Thanks Trevor.
I've sold the Leica CL+18-56mm and 55-135mm, just couldn't live without IBIS :)

As already said it’s a great camera, just not the best in AF-C. The 24-70mm f4 is a great lens too, seems sharper than the DXO scores suggest. You do have to ‘unlock’ the lens before using it which some people find annoying, although it’s never bothered me.

Owners please....well, is it?

Techradar rate it No1 mirrorless.
Super! One of the best for landscapes. I came from m4/3 via Fuji, and this is a worthwhile incremental progression.

Yep me too - very sharp indeed through the whole range

It such a great combo it a lovely kit.. If your just doing landscape and light things it perfect. But if need to track something fast or need AF speed for sports runners etc then it will be ok but might frustrate you

In the olden days proper photographers used to manage without autofocus or motor drive, and still managed to shoot racing cars, brides' eyes, and dogs in flight. Just sayin' :exit:

Very true, but technology moves forwards ... some choose to embrace the new way of focusing, others stick to shooting manually etc. :)

I must admit, I am jealous of the A9's tracking and eye AF. I'm hoping Nikon can get somewhere close with their next cameras, it can get tiring/frustrating constantly moving the AF point around when your subject just doesn't sit still ;)

This is one of the biggest reasons I can't seem to part with my Sony A9...... it makes nailing the shot effortless, so I can just focus on composition etc. I am always stuck on AF-C with Face / Eye-AF Detection turned on.... simples :)

Nah..can't bring myself to pull the trigger.....It's the money from the sale of the Leica that's burning hole in my pocket. Do I get the Z6 or add to my Oly setup?
Depends on your genre requirements. For landscapes etc I'd definitely go with the Z6. Dynamic range and cleanliness of image is excellent. For anything requiring extra reach, or if you want minimum size/weight, stick with Oly. There are certain features of the latest Oly which I would yearn for, such as live composite mode. Both are excellent systems, with Olympus currently beating Nikon in native lens availability. You've obviously, as I know from my days on the UK Oly forum, long experience of that system, so it's really your choice at the end of the day. I would certainly never try to persuade a person to switch from one system to another, only offer my own experiences when asked.
