Do you realize that all your posts are listed on google ?.Igoogled my TP screename only expecting to maybe see a link to my page but i was amazed to see all my complete posts. I thought posts would only show on a website that you were registered with.I find this to be quite alarming. It appears this is not only applicable to TP,I have checked other sites. My website on Photoshop does not seem to be listed.
Did you know ? & what are your views.

It's the Internet nothing is free from privacy on tinternet. Post at your peril.

It's all fine with me, any information I post is automatically in the public domain, so it doesn't bother me from that point of view. Infact I'd say it's a bonus, as I presume it's making it more likely to get me answers for any query I put into google. Just goes to show the power of googles' bots.

As for your website, have you got all your tags in place for the crawlers to find? how new is your site and how much traffic does it get? getting listed high up in google is an art from in itself, unless you've cornered some obscure corner of the interenet ;)

Doesn't matter with me either. Would be hard enough to single out my posts from the many other 'ant' websites. :D That's if you only put in my username.

my user name pops up in its various incarnations for all kinds of subjects, i dont mind at all. have you submitted your website URL to google?

Thanks for your comments,if your happy then its OK with me.
Us old'uns sometime find it difficult to comprehend these new fangled ways

It is indeed, Search engine optimisation (SEO) is big business - it's peoples jobs to optimise websites to list high in google search results

As for the threads appearing on google, I agree that it's in the public domain, information sharing is a wonderful thing (when used correctly, of course!)

Indeed. Once you commit something to the internet, unless you are actively preventing it from being 'indexed' (IE read by a search engine), then the chances are it WILL be read by Google.

Naturally due to our nature, we don't prevent search engines indexing the site, especially Google, as that's where most of our 'business' (Ie members) come from. They are looking for information on a certain topic, and they can only be led to us by google if google knows we are discussing that particular topic :)

And it does that by keywords.

There are some forums it can't read however, as we don't allow certain forums to be visible to guests :)

I was'nt concerned with TP,or my posts being on google,I just did'nt realize information can be made available to the public. As they say you live & learn.(I'm afraid someone might find where i hide my cash)

Mmmm, I tried my user name and for some reason nothing related to me comes up.

:D

some of these search engine optimising companies are rip-offs, we had one in at work a couple of years back and th guy was giving it the JonnyBigBalls on how it guarentees front page etc etc, he took his laptop out to show the demo and it turned out to be google ads on the right hand side. he was duly shown the door.

we here at TP towers did it by installing a free module and some hard work, we know people who spent hundreds and got sod all from it.

Try googling my screen name and see if you can find any of my posts for the first thousand pages :-)

I suspect that's because of your name. There are millions of items on the web relating to hackers.

The same for me. Got to about page six and found nothing and stopped looking. Amazing how much there is on the net about badgers!

It's much the same with me. I had a go at googling my name and couldn't find anything in connection with me amongst the thousands of DJs called Ian, or Ian D Js (no, I'm not an actual DJ, the initals are my middle and surname, in case you're wondering. It's just got a nice ring to it, that's all).
