Looking into possibly getting a new strap, i've mixed between a cheap eBay hand strap and the standard Nikon one, but feel it's time to change.

I seem to either spend days with the strap wrapped around my wrist, so it's more of a hand strap, and days where I wear the strap across my body. I've been looking into the Rapid Straps and just wondering what others decided on?

Thanks!

Op/Tech Pro

There were some Talk Photography ones available, not sure if there are any left though...

Optech Pro for me too, the one with the loops. Can be easily pressed into service as a hand/wrist strap by removing the centre section.

There was a very long thread on this very topic recently.

I have chosen a Qucik Strap RS4 from Bond Cameras on ebay, seems to be similar to the R-Strap, just a little more affordable.

It is excellent and serves my purpose (Op-tech too short to hang across body), no concerns over its quality, except the catch which I intend to replace.

I've been using an Optech Pro for a while but I'm finding that I'm getting a sore neck using it with the 100-400 on the camera. I've just ordered a Black Rapid r strap RS2 with a second connector that will go on the 100-400.

I've also got an Optech hand strap which is great when I've got a lighter lens on the camera.

I was bought an OpTech Pro strap for Christmas, so far in the last few months pleased with it, although I managed for years with the standard Canon strap

I'm another OpTech neoprene strap user. Spreads the load far better than the freebie in the box. Also used a nonmae neoprene one but one of the clips broke (got shut in a cupboard door) after a couple of years.

I've never seen what the problem is with the standard strap that comes with the camera..

Those big padded things look far too cumbersome to me. Suppose it depends how you shoot though.

I always find it ends up pulling the hairs on my neck LOL

I went for a TP Optech...

I find it very comfortable.....

I have a selection: Standard Nikon narrow straps; standard Nikon wide straps; Op-Tech Pro strap; R-Strap.
Usually my D3 bodies will have the OEM wide straps attached.
My F3 film cameras have the narrow Nikon straps attached as they're lighter and the strap can be wrapped around my wrist.
My D3x has the Op-Tech strap attached, mostly so I can distinguish it quickly from the D3 bodies.
I only use the R-Strap on my second D3 body if I'm out and about with the 70-200 attached. Strap goes to the lens' tripod-mount.

Cameras never go around my neck, always off the shoulders...

I have one of the double quick straps from ebay (double version of the link in DrRusty's post).

The strap itself works fine, and is comfortable. The clips look dodgy but after a bit of experimentation (ie trying to loose stuff off them) I trust them. The only bit I will change is the bit you screw to the camera/lens: It is made from a soft alloy which makes it very light, but it is wearing at an alarming rate around the hole where the clip attaches. I intend to get one made up in stainless to the same pattern. I prefer the flat plate type to the R-strap type because it can be turned around so that the camera hangs exactly where I want it. ie the camera on my left side will have the plate in a different position to the camera on my right side.

Not quite sure what you mean here - on mine the sling-swivel with the tripod-screw...swivels...
I can rotate it in any direction I want...

Arkady: Its a bit hard to explain. Mine swivel OK, but it is more to do with the balance or angle that the kit hangs at. The right hand side doesn't really matter as I can grab the camera wherever it hangs (I am right handed), but for the left side I have found that to get the camera gripped correctly first time/every time I go for it I need it to hang at a specific angle/position. Different lenses also alter the balance point of the kit as well. (Yeah, I know I am fussy b****r :D)

The Optech ones for me are so much more comfortable, especially if you have a heavy lens on.

I use an R-Strap. I know it's silly expensive for what it is, but they've thought about it and I think it's the best of the sling-type straps.

I know what you mean about the attachment point. It makes a big difference to the balance. I use mine attached to a point on one of those really nice aircraft grade alloy L-brackets (mines a Markins - another thing I wish I'd got years ago) which just happens to be perfect for me, but as a default position the standard tripod bush isn't bad.

If they made a plate with holes to allow a variety of positions that would be handy. Not that hard to DIY I guess, as you say.

could use both, Im sure the strap holes are large enough to thread through both the neck strap and the hand strap :D ?

I have recently switched to the Op/Tech Dual Harness and have been very impressed with it.
It will work fine with a single body, you don't need a 2nd to balance it, and it switches the weight to your shoulders rather than neck.
The other advantage I found was that it will fit under the straps of a backpack - so I when I wanted to get something out of the pack I could simply take it off as normal, and not worry about having to take the camera of my neck first.
