Is to help me take a nice picture that is to be included in our christmas cards to our family and friends:

Subject

Our children. one is 16months old called Erin, the other will be days old (not actually born yet - due next tues/wed)

Equipment

EOS 350d, no external flash, 50mm F1.8, the kit lens that came with the old EOS 300 i think its 28-90mm, 70-300mm USM lenses, various household lamps, a brown sheepskin from SkyeSkyns and a brown leather sofa...

My idea

put sheepskin onto sofa, then baby on the sheepskin but can't decide on lying down or sitting up. Erin either standing next to sofa looking at the baby or sitting near the baby on the sofa....

although the sofa doesn't have to be the location, i could use our double bed...

not the easiest thing to photograph especially when the equipment is sadly lacking...

what are your thoughts?

thanks

Eoghan

PS going to the professionals is not an option.

I think it can be done!

The bed may be better more room to work with but they're your kids/its your house so you have the opportunity to try both!

Christmas hats etc coming into play? Equipment isn't lacking, 1.8mm is a good indoor lens, and there's always the option of black and white/selective colour (dont hurt me!)

If your finding your not getting enough light, try using a peice of card/paper to bounce some of the on-board flash.

A cute kids pic with a decent background will go down very well as a Christmas card, its a nice home made thought.

Give it a go - just take plenty of shots and I'm sure you'll get something you'll love. NOT sitting up for a days old baby though!

How about sitting the toddler down on the sheepskin and the baby 'sitting' between the toddler's legs for a portrait-oriented shot?
(And Mummy just outside the frame to catch the baby if it keels over!)

Hi all,

thanks for the replies.

took the photo today and put it through photoshop. found the watercolour filter, and i think it made the picture...

here

thanks for your advice and i hope you like......

I am sure the people recieving the xmas cards will be well chuffed, as should you be, it's a very well executed picture. IMO

Bloody cheesy. But well taken and an interesting (in a good way) pose. Proper Xmas card material.

That's a really lovely picture and will go down very well, I think. Congratulations on two beautiful children :)
