After a recent discussion as to what REALLY are your camera kit essentials... I was wondering what you guys think? I meant, what do you absolutely-cannotlivewithout essentials? & what are those essentials that you don't really need but you have to take anyway?

.. and so forth.:)

Just a tripod? No camera and lens? Wow, genius in the making ;)

In my bag I have the Body, Kit lens, 55-250, om50+ebay tubes+ef mount adapter, timer remote. Spare battery, memory cards and an anti static cloth. I've never used the little first aid kit, very rarely have I needed the spare memory cards and only once the spare battery, but wouldn't be without them just in case. For normal use I don't need the om50 kit and timer remote but have nowhere else to keep them.

I also have a UV filter in just in case to protect the front element of the lens. Glad I had that one with me on the beach in the howling gale :D

Food and water.

I can live quite happily without a camera.

BUT, the bare basic kit would be at least one body with lenses to take me from 12mm up to 300. Sigma 12-24, Nikon 18-70 kit lens and Nikon 70-300VR. If I'm allowed a bit more space, lob in another body (35mm, F80) which'll let me use the full wide angle capability of that 12-24, giving me the field of view (35mm equivalent) of 12mm-450mm. Since there's still space in the bag, I'll take an 8mm fisheye as well - then there's also space for a 50mm f/1.8 in case I need the low light capabilities. If I reckon I'll need some support, I'll take it - either a Pod in a pocket or either a GorillaPod SLR Zoom or a "proper" tripod strapped to the backpack.

As for gadgets and gizmos... I've always got a blower brush in the bag as well as a lenspen and cleaning tissues/fluid. A torch is handy so there's always one of them in there too - along with a spare set of batteries for it. While we're talking batteries, there's always a spare one for the DSLR in the bag and a set for the F80. There's certain to be a few GB of cards in the bag too. A couple of Circular pols complete the kit pretty much - apart from some extra film. Since it takes up almost no space and is very light (not to mention that it stops all the water flowing off the sides of any seascapes...) I also have one of those little digital levels to help me keep my horizons level.

I never go out without at least a 400mm lens. 90% of the time my 500mm.
If not my tripod my beanbag always comes with me.

I can quite happily go out for a day with nothing more than my 30D, and sigma 17-70 I don't even need spar cards batteries etc. Having said that I'll often chuck in a spare card and a battery along with some filters (Grads and polarizer).

coat and rain cover, 1d 24-105mm + card and batteries +food

Camera, lenses, memory. Anything else is a bonus...

Umm....
Does the missus count?
Okay so she doesn't fit in the kit bag but she often tags along with me as well as the dog.

If I am going somewhere local then it's the body, kit lens, 50-250mm IS lens, spare battery (dead cert one will run out of juice on me) and a spare SD card.
As for our holiday in two week, as above plus another battery and SD card and my nifty fifty but all packed into my Slingshot 200AW bag rather than the crumpler shoulder bag.
I probably wont need all the SD cards as my my good lady is taking her laptop so I can dump photos onto it daily.
I'm also thinking about packing the crumpler into a suitcase because I know there will be days when I wont need to take the extra lenses and I don't fancy schapping the 200AW for the sake of it.
