Why does a beginner have to start at 'entry' level cameras? My first DSLR was a 40D which I have now added a 5D MkII to.
If you buy an 'entry' level camera, chances are you are going to have to sell it. This will be because you find that you don't like photography, or conversely, that you do like photography and get the urge to upgrade. Working on that philosophy I started with the 40D, figuring that if I didn't get on with it I could sell it, but if I fell in love with it I wouldn't find myself wishing to upgrade any time soon.
And so it has turned out. Yes, I now have a 5D, but I have kept the 40D because I know there will be occasions where I will prefer to use it. And no, I haven't felt the urge to replace it with a 7D.
