Yes
Cheryl is back ooop North around this weekend and we've decided it would be nice to have some kind of a mini-meet for people in and around Yorkshire. Something free would be good, it'll be getting close to Christmas so the cheaper the better - if the only costs involved are getting there then more people will be able to come.

Please use this thread for ideas and suggestions. East/North/South/West - wheverever is good :)

I'm guessing this one will be more of a walky-landscape meet so if people like going to the coast we could all meet up there, or somewhere up in the Dales.

Discuss.

West, It's nearer to me :)

I'm certainly up for a landscapey meet. I need to do more landscapes, so somewhere were we can meet up, and go for a nice walk somewhere.

Why not head a little futher north to Newcastle and take in the Quayside and the lights on the Tyne - send the other half shopping at the Metro Centre!! Looking at some of the recent shots from Tyneside it could be a good trip! A wander along the coast could satisfy the landscapers.

26th of november, thats like 2 days before my birthday!

And only 4 before mine :D

Newcastle would be too far for me to travel as I'm driving home from Hampshire that morning, which takes me 3-4 hours as it is.

26th November, 3 days before the Dona Nook meet last year :p

Donna Nook is after this meet ;)

Okay how about either Whitby, Bridlington, Scarborough or York?

York has some nice street scenes and some lovely buildings.

First place that came to mind to me was York. It has a variety of subjects - people, buskers, buildings with history, plus that giant wheel
Only thing it does'nt have is the landscapes.
I would prefer something different as I've been to York sooooo many times for shopping etc, but its the best I can think of at the moment.
Of course I'll still have to pluck up enough courage to go :help: :D

Well Sue's parents live 13 miles out of York, so York is stupidly easy for us.

If we want landscapes I guess we'll have to go up to the Dales somewhere.

Last time I went to York I felt claustrophobic, it felt really cramped and small.

I would be up for a Yorkshire meet

no need to be afraid, we're a nice bunch

WE could meet up at my house! I live at the foothills of the dales just down from a great rock outcropping that has both difficult and easy climbs. You definitely wouldn't be lacking for landscapes there!

DS I know what you mean about York :) , but at least its got variety and options if the weather is rubbish (I know the weather is always sunny up here ;) ).
If it were to be the Dales/countryside, then maybe it should have other options like ruins (Bolton Abbey), house and bird garden (Harewood, but too close for you I guess DS  ). If it were the coast, then I reckon Scarborough or Whitby cos they have ruins aswell as bitterly cold winds, chips and amusements ;)

For any southerners who venture up we could maybe arrange for some of this or some of these too .
Unfortunately we're a bit late for this one, but theres always next year :p

I don't think sue would come ferretting ;)

Harewood is fine by me mate, never been up there :o

Sue said that roundhay park was really nice when she went to see Robbie Williams and she wanted to go back up there to take some photos at some point.

Chips & gravy on the harbour.....yummy

Isn't there a butterfly world thing near/at Harewood ?
Note: don't think Minimeese will be too keen on that one :nono:

There's Lotherton Hall, has a nice (but small) bird garden and some deer

i'm trying to think of somewhere that we could spend a few hours at... but failing miserably

Yorkshire!! These meets are just getting further away from me!

Lotherton is nice (and Free...always great for a Yorkshireman :p ) but you're right it is a bit small and would'nt take up a full day, even a short November day.

Just looked at Harewood site and they have this on one 26th Nov, might have a few characters there. I've never been to Harewood so don't know if the Bird Garden and house is open year round

Harewood is a great idea but cheap it is not! Harewood is just down from me and both the grounds and the house have great picture quality. Although I don't know if camera's are allowed inside the house.

£11 Argh! me wallets just gone into a spasm!

Arrgh! someone who lives near me!

It can happen you know :D

Think I'm OK for a meet around that time and York sounds good. Of course I'd have to check with me events organiser, but at the moment she's out playing Bingo

Excellent suggestions. As a NT member it would be completely free!:) Joking aside though Fountains Abbey would be good if we get a late Autumn.

Other suggestions: North York moors in the morning then Yorkshire coast in the afternoon. So Helmsley or Malton or Pickering (steam trains and a pub lunch) then Robin Hoods Bay or Staithes or Ravenscar then fish and chips in Whitby.

As has been mentioned York can be very crowded. My single (new around here) vote would be rural/village rather than city.

Did most of that on sunday!!!

Fountains Abbey is nice. I'd like either that or a nice hilly landscapey walk :)

Not too hilly, I don't fancy a heart attack :shake:
