Yes, a phone call to your Yorkshire bank telling them that if the cannot make their online banking system work from a PC you will close your account.

I'm not with Yorkshire bank but the Clydesdale same group and the app is now an extra level of security ie if you login to your on line banking you have to confirm it on the phone app, it's a bit of a PITA for people that don't live on their phones but I sort of get the added security.

yes you have to have the app on your phone to do online banking with YB/Clydesdale, no options.

nope they will just tell you to "do one" the gist is if you are savvy enough to do online banking you ae savvy enough to have an app on a smart phone.

I bank with VB/Clydesdale, when moving money I get a text with a pin to confirm data on pc, no app on my phone.

HSBC do the same. The app on the phone generates a 6 digit number that expires after 30 seconds that you use on the PC to log in with. When you make a payment you enter part of the account number and amount on the phone and another code is generated to authorise the payment.

yeah but you are still linked to your phone that's the point. its the 2nd level of security.

I'm happy with 2 levels of security,* but the OP stated he needed to download the app, My point is you don't require the app, perhaps help frpm a more savvy member off bank staff to explain the options.
* I have the same with Santander, conformation passcode to continue, I'm not sure but I believe it's not compulsory but fraud protection/compensation may be reduced.

Thanks every one, the problem i have is i dont know what phone number my bank has, i guess they would use the number i download the app on, i may ring them as i dont want to go in the branch at the moment.

They don't need the phone number you just download the app to your phone. You login to your online banking on your laptop/computer as usual and it takes you to a screen to confirm login attempt you then have 2 minutes to open the app on your phone and confirm login.

Thanks i may try tomorrow,

I keep getting the offer to download the app for my bank, but I haven't and don't want to
When I have required a security number they just text it to my phone, never had a problem

yeah but you're missing the point .... online internet banking is by its very definition online, so why would you not want the app?
you are just playing with goal posts with no winner.

If I'm online on my computer why the hell do I need to duplicate a website/app on my phone, or more than one device in my home, I don't have the need to use internet banking away from my home. Maybe because I use my phone mainly as it primary purpose, making and receiving phone calls, I can go more than 10 yards from my phone without a panic attack and frequently leave home without it.

because the highest amount of online banking fraud is you guess?

it is stolen and compromised password from logging on and malware on your PC.
its not rocket science is it?

So are you saying that all banking should be done on a phone app because they are totally secure and using a pc is not?

Face to face over the counter is most secure...

nope i am saying two factor authentication via app is best.
sending a text to a phone can be easily cloned and is next to pointless for a decent hacker.
app encryption is basically impossible to crack.
