Some while ago I asked would my Yongnuo YN568EX flash (which I used with my Nikon D800) work with my Canon 5D3, I was told it would not work on the camera but if I got triggers it would work that way, so if that is the case would I need a Canon controller and a Nikon receiver to fit on the flash or would a Canon controller and a Canon receiver on the flash work ?.

Pass... But I've got a set of triggers, a receiver and 2 canon speedlites in the classifieds.

I believe whoever told you that was incorrect.using Yongnuo triggers the Canon and Nikon protocols are different.

As above, simple triggers will get you totally manual off camera flash, but if you want TTL control, the only reliable way is to use the right setup. You should be able to swap your Canon Yongnuo for a Nikon one at minimal cost.
Or just go Godox which will save you in the long run.

Thanks, but where would I be able to swop the flashes ?.
