So i've had this flash for about 2yrs and for a while now it's been displaying hot, sometimes even after just being turned on. Sometimes it'll work for for a few flashes other times it'll work fine.
Then i realised it was a lot worse if i angled the head up, to the point it would permanently say hot. So i took it apart and found that a ribbon cable connector wasn't quite pushed in fully in the body or the head. So after putting it all back together (not a hard job, just a couple of screws in the head and 4 in the body), i gave it a try today and touch wood all seems fine.
After searching the internet it seems to be a common-ish problem with the 685.
