Folks,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me figure out why all I get with this combination is basically black photos on ETTLII even although the flash fires or if I use the Manual setting on the 568 regardless of the setting I get full power whiteouted out pictures.

The 7D is set to Manual
Flash Mode E-TTLII
Shutter Sync 1st curtain

Regardless of the shutter speed I pick, I've tried 1/60, 1/80, 1/125 and higher, I get the same black output, where as when I use my old 420EX with these settings it works fine.

I've tried the flash on my Brother in Law's 80D and it works perfectly with the same settings as on my 7D.

I've even tried 2nd Curtain and Hi-Speed on the 7D with the same results

The 568EXII is supposed to be compatible with the 7D and I've seen reviews and videos on the internet where it works fine, but I can't get it to work.

My 7D is on the latest firmware version available

My suspicion is user error but I'd be grateful for any suggestions or help to get it working before I five up and sell it to my Brother in Law at a bargain price.

It's a communication issue.

They're compatible, I've used them together for years.

Try cleaning all the contacts and ensuring it seats properly.

Thanks for the confirmation they should work together Phil.

I've given the contacts on both the 7D & the 568 a good clean and still no luck.

It does seem to seat OK, not as tightly as the 420 but still seems tight enough and regardless of how hard I push it down or the angle it still just won't work correctly.

It's obviously got some communication as it displays the aperture correctly and the focal length.

Its not a major problem as I very rarely need flash and the 420 works, it's just not as flexible.

I'll just need to try it again with my Bill's 80D to confirm it definitely works on it, my only other body is a 40D and it's not compatible with it.

I have had all sorts of bother with Yongnous which "should" work. That said I have a 568II that I regularly use on a 6D and it is generally OK, it tends to be when using triggers that I get problems. Typically if the flash is firing and but the photo is dark it is because the flash is firing after the shutter has closed, not that that helps you much but you have my sympathies. :(
