Please excuse me I'm brand new to off board flash and want to experiment
is this unit ok with my old 20D?

I can vouch for the YN-460ii. I use mine on a 40d and they are excellent for the price.

I have two, one of which I was going to put in the classifieds soon if you are interested ?

Boxed with stand, pouch & instructions.

Do I need to get a lead for off board use anyone?
if so where can I get one?

The YN-460 won't TTL, so there's no benefit to using a lead and wrapping yourself up in cable. I use the RF-602 wireless triggers with a 40D and the YN-460 (and the YN-468, 430EZ). Available through the usual Ebay sellers.

If for any reason the other party doesn't want it then I would like to buy it, let me know if so!
 
Yep they'll do the job. That's what I've got and they'll work with studio lights when you eventually upgrade (which you will, I guarantee it :naughty:)
 
That's the one, not a seller I've used.. for the RF-602 I can recommend either Trevor at CotswoldPhoto or using HKYongnuo. If you get the right connector cable as well (C3 for the 20D?) you can use the trigger as either a wireless flash trigger or as a wireless camera shutter trigger (to do both you'd need another transmitter/receiver pair).

The RF-602 seems to have been superceded by the RF-603, looks like a useful replacement as it standardises to a single transceiver and only one battery type. Worth considering, not used the RF-603 myself.
