Okay so i got irratated with my Laptop and WIndows PC so bit the bullet and bought a Macbook pro :)

Now... what software to use... decisions, decisions!!

The usual suspects?

Photoshop CS4
Lightroom or Aperture
iMovie or Final Cut or Adobe Premium
Office 2008 or Open Office
Safari or Firefox or Opera or IE or Google Chrome

The list is endless.....

Download free trials of Aperture and Lightroom and buy the one you prefer.

Other 'must have' software on my MBP include:

Acrobat Pro
Photoshop CS4
Photomatix
Flickroom
iGetter
Skype
VLC
MainMenu or Onyx
Tweetdeck

Before you dash out and spend money, decide what you want to do. What software did you have on your PC. Do you need similar or is there stuff on there that you haven't used for years ( like me).

Would suggest you install Firefox as a web browser, I prefer it to Safari, but compare, and decide. Also I installed Thunderbird, as a mail program as I can get acknowledgments of emails which I couldn't do with Apples mail.

Most important ENJOY

What software did you use on your PC, can you get licenses tranferred? What sort of software do you want?

Thanks guys... I used Paint Shop Pro, a bit of GIMP and the like...

Played with Aperture and got the trial but it doesn't seem to do layers :( I need my layers...

So I've installed GIMP for now anyway... but I'm not wanting to necessarily spent a thousand on Photoshop right now if I can help it... bank account looking a bit angry at the moment :D

Neither does Lightroom, because they're not dedicated to editing, it's an organisational/workflow tool with light editing options.

Ditto about Lightroom, if you don't get on well with the GIMP (I didn't on Mac) my advice would be to get the trial of Elements 8 when that comes out, that does layers and you can use the organisational tools from iPhoto. If you like the trial it isn't too pricey to buy either.
