I moved to Sony (A7iii, Sony 16-35 F4, Samyang 35 1.4 , and Samyang 85 1.4) from Fuji about 6 months ago, and it’s a fantastic system. The images are technically outstanding and the cameras AF and operation is great.
So why am I here asking about the XT-3?
Simple. Im missing Fuji.
I’ve been culling a lot of images recently and while looking through old files I’m reminded of just how amazing the Fuji RAW files are SOOC.
My Sony images are technically better in terms of IQ and noise etc, and they have that FF look if shot wide open ( a big part of why I decided to try Sony in the first place), but the Fuji files just have ‘something’ special in the tone and colour.
I’m not saying that I can’t get good colours etc out of the A7iii but it takes a lot more work sometimes. I also don’t want to open the huge can of worms that is the colour science debate. This is all personal opinion.
I also loved the size of the Fuji system. FF lenses are great but they’re also huge!
So I’m genuinely thinking about moving back to Fuji. I don’t shoot for profit only fun, but I take my photography seriously.
As well as the lure of FF, the XT-2’s AF wasn’t great with the slower Fuji lenses, particularly my two favourites the 23 1.4 and the 56 1.2, and this is one area where Sony really shines.
But apparently the XT-3 is much better on this regard. So I’m interested to hear from anyone who’s used the XT-2 and XT-3 with the aforementioned lenses. Is there a definite difference?
I’d also be interested to hear from anyone who’s used the A7iii and XT-3 and on how they compare in terms of AF.
The A7iii has a lot of advantages for me, especially the IBIS and insane high ISO, but I can’t shake the feeling that I might be happier with a Fuji again.
Interested to hear people’s thoughts in general too.
