Xpro 1 - Holding Focus

Ive had this camera for a while but one thing Ive still figured out is if you can auto focus, take the photo but hold the shutter half down and maintain the same focus point. So far all that happens is the focus box turns back to white and I have to re-focus. Coming from the a6000 I thought all cameras had the 'hold to maintain focus' feature
 
You have it in Continuos focus Mode or Single?
 
Odd, I thought if you had it in Single and held the shutter down it locked the focus.
 
The focus should lock, in single focus mode, when the shutter is depressed half way.

Do you get a double beep and the focus box turns green, initially? Also worth just checking that you have the focus mode switch on the front of the camera to the right setting(?)

Might be an option in the settings. I don't have mine (well my XP2) to hand so can't check, but in AFS if should remain in focus until the shutter button is released.

I don't think it will be (but may be wrong), this is from the manual:

If the camera is in focus it will beep twice and the focus area will glow green. Focus area and exposure will lock while the shutter button is pressed half way.

Ok, if it was me I would do a factory reset and just try it out again. That cured an issue with my H1 I couldn't sort.

it does lock but it doesnt stay locked after the photo is taken if that makes sense. I only use the centre point for focusing so I have to focus, re compose, take the photo then do it again if I want to take a second rather than just pressing the shutter button

What you have stated makes sense, Fuji's logic makes sense - they are expecting you to recompose after the shot if you need to reset focus point away from what it has now acquired - I'm assuming this is in single photo mode, what happens if you choose multi burst e.g. 5fps, do all of the frames retain same focus point or jump to where the centre focus point is now "resting" on. The Fuji logic sounds similar to other camera makers logic. I bet if they'd made it lock on where it had been then there would be people saying why doesn't it change focus point after the shot was taken to where it is now - some you win some you lose.
I remember seeing a pro photographers video and he was shooting a model, each time he took a shot he obviously put the centre point back on her face and recomposed so as to get more of her in the frame whilst retaining face in focus.

I have the latest firmware on my X-Pro 1 and have absolutely no problems with it at all.

If you’re using AF, no camera retains the focus point after you’ve taken the shot, as it will always assume you want to refocus again before taking the next.

If you want to keep the same focus point, and just keep shooting, switch to manual focus.

My a6000 and a5000 do if you don’t fully release the shutter button. You can focus by half pressing the shutter, fully press to take the photo. Then if you go back to half pressing without releasing it holds the previous focus. The x pro 1 doesn’t do that. I’m not talking about focusing, taking the photo then letting go of the shutter button, I know it won’t hold focus then.

I'm not sure I understand what it is you're trying to do? I previously used both an A6000 and A6500 but am trying to figure it out. If you fully press the shutter button to take the image, even if you release it then only halfway, the camera is refocusing, although that could be on the same subject if you don't move it (and the Sony bodies will focus faster than the XPro1). Did you have the pre-focus option enabled, as that constantly focuses, even without the shutter button being half pressed, as a way to make the focus lock on seem quicker?

So to break it down I use both the Fuji and Sony's on single point auto focus and not with continous auto focus. So when I use them I use them like an old SLR or rangefinder, focus with the centre then recompose if I need to. With the Sony I could focus with the centre point, recompose and take the photo. As long as I didnt fully release the shutter the focus would remain the same and I could take as many photos as I want without having to refocus providing I didnt relase the shutter button.
With the Fuji I have to focus, recompose, take the photo and then I have to refocus regardless if still have to shutter button held or not. It was as the Sony had a focus lock button tied in to the shutter so it would hold focus.
