If I bought windows 7 professional with XP mode, what exactly would this enable me to get off and old xp hard drive if i stick it in the same pc..

Could I get any more out of the old hard drive this way, as opposed to sticking it in an enclosure.

Seems to me that there should be a way of using everything you had on your old machine, even though the mb and cpu are dead.
Why don't Microsoft or someone make something that say's

'buy this, bollick it into this, and bobs your uncle:thumbs:

I would buy one right now. I'm waiting for an enclosure to turn up so I can see if all my website stuff, documents etc is still okay :(

I think you're confused, xp mode isn't for getting info off of an xp hard drive it's for running a virtual xp machine desktop within windows 7.

Any version of 7 will let you transfer data from another drive, program's as always will need to be reinstalled from their original disk or download as cannot just be copied across.
