X2 Extenders

Morning all,
At the moment in time I only have a 70-200mm lens but fancy something a little but bigger.
the next step up would be a 300 or 400mm but there a little bit to expensive at the mo but I've seen that you can get extenders.

Has anyone had any use with these and what are they link?
Im looking at the Canon EF X2 II extender but not sure if there any good or not.

I've the Canon 1.4TC (mkiii) which I use on my 70-200 very successfully, I have also used it on a Canon 300 F4 IS and was very pleased with the results, I didn't notice any drop off in IQ or AF performance when using it.

Not used the 2TC unfortunately, so can't help you directly, but believe you do loose some AF performance and can loose some IQ.

Don't forget you loose 1 stop with the 1.4TC and 2 stops with the 2TC - you don't say which 70-200 you own - the F2.8 would be F4 with the 1.4TC and F5.6 with the 2TC etc - so could be worth considering if your camera will still AF if you buy a 2TC with either your lens or a future purchase...

I have tried various extenders over the years. The only ones I have found any good are Canon originals. I have used both the 1.4X mk 2 and now the 2X mk3 and imho I have found them great. I have seen NO loss in IQ on either of these. O.K I am not a pixel peeper but for the majority of photographers these extenders are an inexpensive way of adding extra reach.

Is there a downside? That depends upon the body and the lens you wish to attach the extender to. The 1.4 loses you one stop and the 2X loses you two stops. With some bodies and some lens combinations that removes the ability to AF but in my case a 2X extender and an f4 lens will still AF on my 5D mk3 without any problem. Speed of AF does not seem to be affected.

If you are serous I have a Mk3 2X in the classifieds.

I have the Canon 70-200mm f/4 L lens and will be using it with a Canon 6D.

Grumps1974, at the moment in time im just thinking about getting one at the end of the month but not fully sure yet. Also I dont have access to the classifields yet as not been a member for over 60 days.
How much are you asking for it?

Hi there

I am looking for offers around £200 plus delivery.

For what its worth I used the extender on a 6D before I sold it with the IS version of the 70-200 f4 it worked a treat.
