Back in a day, I had an X100 which I simply loved. It didn’t suit what I was doing at the time however and I sold it.

Now my daughter is showing an interest in photography and I’d like her off her phone to take proper shots. I’d have got her an X100 for its simplicity, but wow! The prices are mental. So…I’ve had a look around and it seems the X-E1 could be the best solution between the quality of shots and keeping the price sensible.

Sound fair or is there anything else that could be an option..?

It just needs a few people on YouTube to extol the virtues of a camera and the price shoots up. One guy, the Zenographer, discusses his favourite lenses which cost just a few pounds. One year later and everyone wants to buy one to attach to their digital camera.

that’s so accurate. Such a shame, as I’d love her to experience the wonder of the X100, but if it can be closely replicated in a different avenue then so be it.

Just checked the price. Ridiculous. Quote: The original Fujifilm X-100 is well over a decade old and yet it's still going for almost $1000 again thanks to TikTok

My usual recommendation... Panasonic GX80 and either the 14mm f2.5 or 20mm F1.7.

Mpb have got the x100s for about £500

Xe2 was about £250-300 plus a lens of some description.

Might be worth considering whether she might grow into things and want different focal lengths at some point? Might be worth seeing how they compare regarding AF, etc too

You've also got some of the older Sony A6000 range too which can be had with nice small primes.

Brilliant guys, thanks very much.

Will have a look over the recommendations.

X-e1 is still a good camera love mine, takes great pictures

But screen is small and difficult to review pictures on and af is not up there with modern cameras.

Cheap Fuji body and the 27mm pancake would be my choice. Still quite compact with plenty of upgrades available as interest and budget increase!

Thanks all. Stuck a wanted ad up in good hopes...

I recently compared my X-T30 with a colleague's X100 and the X-T30 body is is slightly smaller - though it is not as neat and the shutter feels like it gives quite a clunk compared with the X100. WIth a cheap pancake 27mm added it wouldn't be that much larger- though not quite as cute as a X100. I suspect the X-T30 or X-T30ii prices won't be quite as high in the used market as the X100 family.

I may be looking to shift on my (silver) X-E1 body... I still own a X-Pro1. And recently moved over using a Nikon D700.

Maybe you could refer to them as influencers

The shutters are electronically timed. Although the shutter and mirror appear to mechanically do their thing, I think that you will find that both curtains cross the gate without opening if tripped without batteries fitted.

I certainly could. My grasp of the English language is deteriorating rapidly. Maybe I should stop posting. ;)
