I bought this last month and calibrated my screen for the first time, great! And now, it's not working. The unit just isn't recognised by the software.

So..... I've been through the problem guides many times over and performed everything several times over to. I have removed my antivirus package; installed all the new driver and latest software several times over; updated all of my USB ports; re-installed the software a few times and reverted back to older updates etc and still nothing.

I have sent them an e-mail 3 days ago which says they will answer within 24 hrs and heard nothing.

Can anybody advise please, have you suffered similar? Otherwise it's going back to where it bought from!

I have the i1 Display Pro, and I've had no problems with it.

If you have updated USB port drivers for your system, and re-installed the latest USB drivers for the i1, and your USB ports work OK with everything else... just take it back to where you bought it from.

Can you try it on a different PC?

My XRite Colormunki did exactly the same thing...worked the first time and then not recognised when I went to use it again.
I found a walk through instruction on the web showing how to use device manager to stop the service and then restart it....it's been fine ever since.
I've just looked for the web page but can't locate it...sorry.

You know what Andy, that's not a bad idea, talk about the obvious. I will have a go at trying on my laptop later. Only downside like Bob refers to is that it worked initially, will have a look certainly over the weekend.

Couple of things to try.

Have you tried uninstalling the software and re installing it

Secondly Can you use a restore point to before you installed the software, and then try reinstalling it.

Thirdly you could try using alternative software to see if it's the software or the device.

Coloureyes display pro works with this device and they do a 30 day trial. Instal this and see if it detects the i1. CEDP is a good bit of software but a little on the expensive side as you'll see, but would help to decide if its the i1 or the device

Mine had the same problem - that was on my old computer with Vista, my friends computer with Windows 7 and my new computer with Windows 8 (I installed the i1 right after installing Windows 8 - it still cocked up). I also had problems with the Look Up Tables after I got my computer to recognise it, also its light would start flashing rapidly after about 2 minutes for no reason other than to remind me I paid too much for it. Didn't realise that I would have to educate myself in the workings of USBs when I bought it...

I trawled the internet back when it happened but can't find the links now. From my memory, after the i1 Display Pro cocks up you have to remove it and, basically, give it some time to calm down and turn your computer off - and disconnect it from the mains for a while so absolutely no power is going through the motherboard (forcing it to reload the drivers when turned on)*.

* Well that's what I read, but in practice I could just unplug the device, restart my computer and plug it back in 15 or so minutes later.

Edit to add a bit, from my poorly educated mind: The i1 Display Pro is a USB Human Interface Device which I believe means that it and your computer should get along like buddies as soon as they meet - no need to install a driver for it (hence why I could never find one on the CD or website). However the i1Profiler acts as a dysfunctional middle man - so the very first time you connect the device it feels at home with your computer, then you load up i1Profiler for the first time and it starts screwing up the situation and causes the device to crash. After that the computer rejects the device, reporting it as malfunctioning, and seemingly never forgets that it has malfunctioned until you disconnect them from any means of electricity, so as they can start their relationship afresh when the computer is powered up again and the device is then connected. Problem for me was that the software was causing to the problem to repeat, finally I had to reinstall the software. Sadly not just any old reinstall (frustrated and not too rationally I combined all the advice I read online that made sense and assumed that they would work when applied together - by chance it did):
1st - remove the device
2nd - uninstall the i1Profiler and all other software associated with it and delete any folders left over in the program files
3rd - restart the computer
4th - uninstall antivirus software (might not need to do this)
5th - restart computer
6th - turn off Windows Firewall
7th - Disable User Account Control - in Control Panel search for User Account Control and change setting to Never Notify
8th - restart computer
9th - have a biscuit
10th - install the software off the CD, and do the restart.
11th - cross fingers and connect the device

If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry for adding to the frustration. If it does work then profile your monitor (perhaps twice, with a restart in the middle because it has become habitual by now), return your User Account Control to how it was before, turn on your Firewall if you wish and reinstall your antivirus software. Do one more profiling of your monitor and a victory dance.

Hi John,

Yes to both but thank you.

Rod - Thank you for taking the time to type that. I will go through it tonight when I have more time. Much of what you say makes sense and I am still on the terrible Vista too. Will get the choc digestives out at the ready ;)

Well I have installed the software onto my laptop which runs on windows 7, updated to latest edition software and the unit appears dead. So going to send it back I think.

I will say though that I have sent two emails to the contact address at xrite and heard nothing back, wonderful!

Kris,

I've found the details that I used to get mine active again.

Plug in the device, open device manager and expand all devices.
The X-rite will probably be at the bottom of the list (after the USB devices). Double click on the X-rite icon and go to the second tab in the properties pop-up pane.
Disable and then enable the device followed by a restart of your system.

It worked for me (and the person who passed on the info)

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for that. The device doesn't show up at all on my device manager so I really do think the units dead. Will be speaking to WEX on Monday when the lines are open.
