Ok after going to an open day for a potential job a few weeks back, I along with I think many others were asked what dates and times that were on offer to us would be conveniant for a one to one interview. After choosing 30th July and mentioning that any time would be ok with me I walked away with a bit of hope. a few days later I recieved an email explaining that due to the intrest shown that interviews had to be rescheduled and I would hear from them very shortly. Today came the news.

After recieving so many applications it quickly became clear that we would not be able to interview everybody, and in this instance you were not selected to go through to this next stage.

WTF!!! is that the way people deal with things nowadays, I am still considering emailing them and letting them know what I think, but the wife says as they said they would keep my details on redcord if anything came up in the future, that it was not worth doing that. as far as I am concerned they verbaly arranged an interview for me.

So what would you do?

I fully understand your frustration. Unfortunately, with so many people out of work and all chasing too few jobs, employers know they won't be short of applications and many don't show much courtesy. A lot of firms don't even bother to answer when you apply for a job by letter.

They sometimes do say that they'll keep you on file, but that's possibly just to soften the blow. Usually, when a job becomes available again, they will re-advertise it. Tempting though it may be, I wouldn't personally respond to them by being critical because you may in the future apply for a job at a firm which has some connections with the employer you have just applied to. But that's just my opinion.
 
I had a not so different experience many years ago but I was lucky. Applied for a job that was'nt advertised to the general public(I new somebody who worked there). They got 600 application forms returned, this was narrowed down to 200 for an aptitude test then down to 50 for interviews for 20 positions. I don't believe you can judge somebody on paper alone but if there is massive interest can they really interview everybody.

What would I do?

No they cant, but instead of telling people they had an interview they could have had the decency to say sorry we have been that busy we aint even looked at your cv yet. oh well back out tomorrow wiv me camera I suppose :lol::lol::lol:
 
I applied for a job recently, I was well qualified to do, did a blinding application, answered everythng in full, printed perfectly, took it in by hand, should have at least had an interview! Didn't even get the courtesey of a reply saying thanks but no thanks! :shake:
 
with the recession i think some people are getting a reality check.
seems the general attitude of people nowadays is that if you apply for a job you should get it.
I was unemployed for 3 years from about 2001 onwards. It was a nightmare and I went for so many jobs, and most of the time would get down to the final two and then not get the job. It drove me mental. Job agencies are the worst, they really dont give a monkies.
The worst thing was that I got two jobs that i really wanted. One of them called me the day before I was due to start and told me they lost a contract and dont need anyone anymore. The other was honest and told me that when the MD was about to sign it off he said his nephew could do that job and gave it to him.

What was most frustrating was that when you told people you were unemployed they looked at you like you are scum and obviously you werent trying hard enough to find a job.

The catch 22 of it all, is that the longer i was unemployed the less employers wanted to know, because they just assumed I must be crap at the job.
So after 3 years and a massive amount of debt I had to start again from scratch and am now on half the salary I was on before.

It may not be a very nice thing to say, but I'm glad some people are finding out that a job isnt owed to them, and it isnt always as easy to get one as people think.
 
You ask what would we do.

If it was a job I really wanted I would contact them and say that I was sorry to hear I had not been accepted for an interview as the job sounded really interesting and their Company exactly what I was looking for and to please keep details on file and to contact me if anything else came up.

If I was not bothered I would do nothing and carry on looking.

Unfortunately that’s not unusual and does pee me off a little, after all what does it take to send out an email ?

But things get even worse the older or younger you are, I’m over 50 and as I have a decent CV and get a few interviews. I’m often the oldest or near to in the room –spot the grey hair!
I often think as there is so much choice out there most employers are looking at 30 -40 year olds:|
