Hiya,

Currently watching a lens on eBay, and it is listed as having 2 small ( 2mm ) patches of fungus near the perimeter of the front element ( on the inside ), I've spoken to Tamron Servicing, and they've said it can be expensive to clean/repair, and they can't guarantee that it won't come back.

So my question is, would you take the gamble or just pay a bit extra and get a fungus free one?

Absolutely not.....it grows and apparently likes the coatings of some lenses. If the manufacturer is warning you against it I think you should listen to them.

I agree with neilos100. Dust is one thing but fungus is another. It's just not worth it unless you're getting the lens for a few quid.

No!

wouldn`t put it on my canon, but as you got a Nikon then yes . you could try soaking both in Domestos over night, if there is any sign of it in the morning use a brillo pad to remove the remainder. Chris

Absolutely not, Fungus can spread to other lenses.

I wouldn't say no, especially if it's uber cheap. Fungus develops if the lens is usually stored somewhere dark for extended periods. Once it's clean just make sure you use it regularly or just shine a light down it for a couple of hours each day till you're satisfied.
