Would this be a fair swap? (Nikon-fit lens madness!)

I have thoughts running through my head......The Voices! The Voices!!

Anyhoo, I have the rather tasty 70-200mm f/2.8 Sigma EX lens, in spectacular condition. It's fast, looks impressive slung on my D80, and makes the ladies swoon (well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad!)

It's a bit short though. Even with a TC, I find myself wanting more length.

The 50-500mm Sigma is also a spectacular lens. Bit slower than the 70-200mm, but with a bit more reach. Round about the same price new as well....

Which brings me to my point: Would it sound a fair swap, 70-200mm f/2.8 for a 50-500 f/4-6.3?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter.....

Only you and the prospective swapper can answer that one. beauty is in the eye of the beholder an all that:)

I have a 'Bigma'. I also have an EF 80 - 200L, and an EF 70 - 200L.

The lens I use more and more is the Bigma. If you can put up with it's minumum aperture of 5.6 at 500 mm, it will repay you with great, pinsharp captures.

It's very soft at 50mm and doesn't sharpen up till f8, but who cares. At 500mm it's a cracker, and with an x2 on, it's extraordinary... mine autofocusses well, and meters accurately at 1000mm on my 1D MkIIN.

Loads were taken with the Bigma.

I'm very happy with mine. It needs atripod or lots of light, but you can do things with it that would be impossible with a 200mm.

Incidentally, it has great bokeh.

Good luck.
