I'm doing an AS level photography course on an evening and have just been given my first assignment.... to be handed in next week

I need to do a B&W portrait but it has to be 'inspired' by an internationally acclaimed photographer. I've tried to research a few online but nothing is really floating my boat. The only day I can physically get to the college library is tomorrow, and the local library has sod all in the way of photography books :bang: add that to the fact that I'm working lots of really long days and it doesn't give me much time to put something together :shake:

So..... can anyone recommend any well known photogs that may give me the inspiration I'm looking for? pretty please <flutters eyeleashes> ;) I'm thinking along the lines of low key, moody and have either the option of going kinda rock star 'ish' (ie man with guitar) or self portrait, possibly semi nude (but tasteful :p)

:thankyou:

Cheryl :)

One of the Nails comps I did last year had a 20's/30's theme.
I was inspired by George Hurrell for my photographic style ... I love those old Hollywood filmstar pics he did.
Good luck.

Youssuf Karsh - google him...
Or better still, Irving Penn (see his 'world in a small room' series).

I have a huge list to google now... thanks for the input - I'll let you know who I decide on :)

Ok, I've managed to narrow it down to two:
George Hurrell - love the low key portraits, very classy :)
Robert Mapplethorpe (yeah, yeah, lots of dinkles before you all start :p), but it's the portrait side of his photography I like (plus, I'm 110% certain that my other half would object strongly to posing for a Mapplethorpe type shot )

Off to the library tomorrow.....
