Workshops etc?

Any in N.Ire?
I am a very poor read and learn sort of person. I need actual people to show me and then let me try. I would like to take a class but so far the only one near enough to me starts at 430 in the afternoon which is no good since I work.

I try to teach myself something new each year and this year (hopefully longer) is photography. But (after a grand total of 3 days ) I REALLY want to learn to do it right and not make a half jab at it.


Hubby took me out and even on auto focus....I was hard pressed to get anything worth showing...and those that were half decent still have something wrong (or maybe it's my super critical artsy fartsy side coming out.) After today I can say I am really crap...which on the upside is a good place to be since I can't get any worse....only better.. I'm putting my best efforts of the day in the bird section so if you wouldn't mind popping over and letting me know whats what....

So any real life folks in N.Ire (Ballymena way) know of anyone who does workshops or classes that won't clash with working hours? I would love to try from books but learned long ago it's not for me.

Sorry can't help with workshops as I'm not exactly in the area but I can say that photography is a much more difficult thing to learn than people think. I'm the same as you as I like to be shown and then copy to learn but if you ask any questions on this forum (however daft you might think they are) someone will explain it in simple terms.

Keep practicing and take your time and you will get there. Right, off to have a look at your bird pics now.

I'm doing beginners course at Belfast Metropolitan College one half day a week although they have the same course running one eveining a week. It runs as a half term course ( Jan to June) and starts again in September. I'm sure there would be something more local to you.

maybe contact your local 'tech' to find out when the next one runs so that you can dook your place on it.

I have found mine invaluable, everything is easier to understand when someone explains it in a basic way and we have competitions every other week so we get a detailed critique too.

you may have to phone a friend who knows the ropes

its not hard to learn and with a few diagrams and a lot of practice you will knock of the sharp corners...

a workshop could cover too much too soon
