Edit My Images
Yes
Hi I am shooting Raw and would like to know what the best workflow method is to save the converted and processed files. I am converting in DPP. Should it be in 8bit or 16bit. should i save to TIFF/JPEG. When creating layers do I need to merge the layers or flatten layers.

All help will be really appreciated

I load all my raw files into adobe lightroom2 - I make simple changes in there and then work on them further in photoshop (if required). I use lightroom as a library of my images and I can easily export images in different sizes and types depending on what I need to do with them.

Ideally save your raw as 16 bit tiff master (this holds the most data) then in an ideal world make a duplicate to edit with ajustment layers, then save that as a PSD (with layers intact) thats for re editing later if needed, finally save out a jpeg (flattened) version resized for web.
Trouble is this takes up a lot of space (and a bit of time) you could easily enough miss out the duplicate/PSD stage, making the ajustment, flattening the layer then saving over your tiff master either making a copy jpeg or even saving as a jpeg if you think you wont need a tiff master again (you could always make another from your raw if needed) it depends on how lightly you may need to re-edit again.

Excellent reply, thank you very much.
