Hi my names opal and im 15 years old.

I am contacting people to enquire if I could do one weeks worth of work experience alongside someone.

I am very interested in photography and hope to be a photographer when im older. I am currently studying a Creative and Media Diploma course at Level2, and wish to do a National Diploma in photography. I have chosen a motorsports photographer because I have photographed at horse events (for friends) and I have done still life photography and I'm very keen to try something new. I also enjoy the thrill of motorsports and would love to photograph different types and events of motorsport.


The dates for the work experience are 11th - 15th July 2011.

my first thought was -- where are you located

Hi Opal,

When I worked as a press photographer for a large newspaper group (Trinity Mirror) based in South Wales, (Now retired) we used to get a lot of youngsters on work experience during the summer holidays. Some even ended up working for us when they finished their college course.

What I would suggest is to contact your local newspaper and ask to speak to the photographic manager/ chief photographer, I know we would not take anybody until they were over 16 years old, but some may take on younger people.

You could also try some of your local wedding photographers. You probably won't earn any money from them but the experience gained will be priceless. What you would do I would think is be given a camera and just shoot a load of candids of the wedding party and guests, which again will give you good experience.
