Does anyne know how to design a word press theme?

Thanks guys...... Just decided to research alternative Web options

New themes are easy enough to create. Modifying an existing one by using a 'child theme' is even easier (the Wordpress 'codex' website explains it all very clearly).
Having said that, it's probably unlikely that what you want hasn't already been done by an experienced theme developer so the previously mentioned theme websites are a good place to start.

now to throw total confusion.....What about using smugmug......any users

How about starting with your requirements rather than a scattergun approach at what the solution might be?

You'd think I was an idiot if I started a thread in equipment with 'what standard lens options do I have' and then threw up the option of maybe a short tele zoom instead.

Why do you need a website? What do you need it to do? How much design experience do you have? Do you have any web design skills? Whats your budget?
The answers to those questions will mean you can get some advice about a website solution suited to your needs.

Hi Phil....I am just replacing my out of date Web site.....it was designed by a professional firm, who I now realise knew how to charge....so to update I decided to check out all options. Cost is a big thing,I no longer want to pay out huge amounts on design, etc...I just need it to showcase some stuff maybe a little e commerce and a blog. I have the basic page layout already designed.... I have seen some amazing WordPress stuff and yesterday I was reading an article about smug mug......not sure about the smug mug thing now, so I think WordPress is my best option.

Wordpress and e-commerce means Photocrati - they can look nice but aren't as easy to use as ProPhoto sites (which don't do e-commerce without additional help).

When I read about issues other photographers have with Wordpress themes I get a warm smug feeling inside as a ProPhoto user - but my galleries for sales are still hosted on a Flash site and I'm nervous about the next move for them (probably PhotoCart)
