Yes
heard on OCuk that this has an excellent photography community. would love to join in and learn/share on all things photography.

i'm a well known member on Bit-tech and a few other computing/gaming forum. also admin'd CustomPC and Bit-tech Battlefield server for over a year.

when i was very young, i played with my grandparent's twin-lens-reflex camera. later, my parents film SLR's, i remember manual focusing using some sort of two half-circles, only when in focus, the two halves look the same (what are those called?). last year's trip to Florence with friends got me interested again, one of my friend has a D300e, excellent camera and took brilliant photos.

so, a bonus in April made me take the dive. bought: D3100 entry level body, 18-55mm kit lens, 55-200mm telephoto lens, 35mm f1.8 prime (equivalent to normal 50mm) and many other accessories.

aaaaaaand here i am, ready to be creative, hoping to join the community and will definitely contribute when i have more experience.

ps. please have a look at this photography competition i've got at work, would love creative ideas from the TP community.

thanks, that's the one! why aren't they in modern DSLR's, it's so useful in manual focus mode.

They are available if for some if you want to jump into open source camera firmware, which you might by the sounds of your background. But not for Nikon AFAIK unfortunately.
Google Magic Lantern.

Magic Lantern isn't really available for Nikon :( knew i should have gone for 550D instead of being a cheapskate with D3100.

yes, you are right, i do love to hack. DD-WRT on the router, jailbreak the iphone/ipad, and Raspberry Pi in the post. :D
