My new camera turned up today! Very exciting. 40D and 24-105 lens.

It's certainly heavier than I expected though. Now to just try and learn how to use the thing. I didn't even know how to change the shutter speed in manual-mode until I spent half an hour with the user-manual! My P&S was never this difficult ;)

Realising how difficult it is makes me even more impressed at people's photos

Mine should (hopefully) be here soonish. Every time I hear a car/van outside i check to see if its a ups van.

Fingers crossed it arrives soon then :)

I'm afraid I failed with the duck though. Was going to go into town at lunch and find one, but it was grey and wet, so my first one was of my colleague. Poor guy.

It's not really difficult when you get to learn how everything works, you just kind of know what settings are right for wherever you are...lol

Anyway, enjoy! That's a great kit setup, especially for a first timer!

Not quite a first timer ... have had film SLRs before (about 15-20 years ago), although only as a complete amateur. My point and shoot hardly extended that knowledge!

Thanks though ... I know it's good kit. Now to live up to it!!!

You should get some really good results with that. An L lens as well. Look forward to seeing some pictures with your new Camera on here soon

My 40D arrived this afternoon, its fantastic! Feels so much better than the 400D. Can't wait to get out with it... Still hoping my mum doesn't notice i have a new camera body, she'll kill me.

congrats, that lens is definitely on my list to get, better range than the 24-70

LOL

Compared to the 400D (well, I'm comparing to my Dad's 350D that I've borrowed a few times when I've been to visit), it's massive and much heavier. Fits my hands SO much better though.

Gonna try some still-life's tonight ... only just got back from badminton, so still a bright shade of puce at the moment. Once I'm a little less red, I shall be seeing if I can make inanimate objects look pretty :D

Ok ... my first shots.

This was taken at ISO3200 with only office lighting and no flash (it was dark outside, so no natural light). 'Tis a colleague of mine doing a standing jump. I've cleaned it in Photoshop, so it's not completely natural, but I'm still impressed!

... and this one was taken with an old angle-poise lamp with a normal light-bulb in, held by hand, with the camera on a VERY cheap tripod. Used live-view too! Very handy.

0.8secs at f4 and ISO100

I'm most impressed :)

Yeah I use a seriously cheap tripod, got it for £7 from Argos...it's rubbish but just about does the job.

Cool photos! The teddybear one is really good.
