Wonderful B&W landscapes

I suspect thats just loooooooooong exposures. In terms of PP it just looks like a decent B&W conversion and added vignetting. Great shots though. Theres some other work ive seen recently that has really encouraged me to get a few ND filter and go for very long exposures.

Not meaning to hijack your thread TomB, but ive been reading about ND400 filters. I have a ND8 filter, is the ND400 50times denser, or is it a different way of calculating it?

Certainly not a bad effort milou. If were doing shamelss pimping.;) This is one of my very few attemps;

It was more of a test than anything. But after seeing these really good ones, I want to try some really long exposures.

10 stop nd?! thats loads. handy for long exposures :) where'd you get that from...?

Very nice stuff - Nowt to do with PP, though. It's all about the film baby.

Really? I think the first guy I posted shoots digital... at least, thats what his site infers.

Actually, you're right - reading further it seems to be a mix of both film & digi :)

The 10 stop is great. My technique: f/8 or f/16, ISO50 and engage mirror lock-up. Then focus, click to lock the mirror up and whack on filter and open the shutter with a shutter release cable. I use the Canon one where you can dial in the amount you want - anything up to 99 hours :D You can't focus with the filter on as nowt can be seen. I regularly get 400+ secs on some twilight shots. It's very addictive. The 5D is superb on batteries but this eats them.

The filter is available from Robert White (waiting time I think) or from Warehouse Express. My pals Bob and Jeannie from Zenith 9 are converts: eg http://zenith9.my-expressions.com/archives/4822_1629648037/224941 and I bought mine after seeing this shot of Gary's at http://www.mysteryme.com/index.php?showimage=300. Adam has loads here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamclutterbuck/

Fantastic shots there milou. Im having a look throug hthe rest of your gallery now. Im supposed to be going to bed soon, so can you lot please stop posting good links!

Edit; Actually scrap that compliment milou. Its wasn't strong enough... your work is stunning! It really is.

Well ive just ordered from WE.

It's all Milou's fault...

I'm having one of those moments where I just feel the need to take my photography up another level... I've only had a DSLR for a couple of months, and every time I start feeling good about the shots I take I see something that makes me feel like binning the lot!

I mean that in a positive way by the way! And I suspect that its not something thats ever going to stop happening, lol.

told you the other day these shots are cool didn't I milou...now everyone's gonna have to have a go!! :D

Hehe, I think were in quite a similar place on out photography journey TomB. The B+W 110 (3.0) SH NDx1000 52mm Neutral Density Filter, am I right in assuming this is a 3 stop ND filter, whereas the one you have milou is 10 stop?

Nah I think thats the same one... I don't understand the numbers for the life of me, but the B+W 110 3.0 10 stop all appear to be the same thing :p

I like your Silly Sad Sally shot. Reminds me of the photos by Jeff Bridges where he had actors do a sad/happy face in the same shot.

Thanks! I like it too, although a lot of people seem to think its a bit weird. The conversion is a bit iffy, but considering it was taken on an old P&S and has huge amount of cloning done to it I think it works quite well.

stunning shots!

Could you get the same effects by stacking smaller ND's?

I don't have any yet but I'm looking into it. I had a hard enough problem with 2,4 or 8 never mind 10 as well!

So just wondering if I went for a set of 2 4 and 8 could I stack them? I know I'd start getting vignetting problems but apart from that?

If not, I would have to order one specially because my lens is 72mm diameter, which means a 6-8 week wait and it's £56 :o

Cheers
