Hi
Still can't make my mind up and wondered if there was any difference between these two excellent lenses with flash?

Cheers,

Dunc

Both great lenses, I prefer the extra reach of the 24-105 (hence I have one) but it's a little bulkier I think. I did a studio shoot with it on Sat and the results are superb (except I can't share them sadly)....

In any situation where I really need flash (speedlite), the 24-105 F4 can't focus fast enough to be useful. I still have my 28-70 F2.8 because of this. I would use the 35 F1.4 instead.

When under studio flash, I usually use primes, but if pressed I do use the 28-70 F2.8 too. I have never used the 24-105 in the studio, nor do I consider it a studio lens.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies and thank you Andrew for the offer. It would be really nice to try the 105L. I just can't make the decision on which to get! I need a good walkabout lens biut I need something that will work well with flash.....

I've never had a problem with the speed of focus on the 24-105, but agree that primes are superior in the studio.

Our customer's experience is consistent with the majority here: the IS and extra reach make the 24-105L more useful as a general-purpose walkaround lens, but in situations where you don't need the IS or the reach (eg in a studio) then the f/2.8 and perhaps better colours make the 24-70L a better choice.

I haven't heard anything about either lens that suggests a differential perfomance when flash is used, though.
