hi im after some advice on buying my first dslr.

i have been useing a panasonic lumix dmc-f27 for five years but i now want something a bit better.

i like snapping scenery cars or just about anything when i go for walks would either of the two cameras mentioned below be ok for me.or is there any other options close to these

i dont realy have a budget in mind and i dont mind buying a used setup as long as its condition is good

i have been looking at
a canon eos 1100d
a canon eos 40d

any advice will be apreciated

thanks

There are loads of options, and only you can choose one.

You need a camera that suits you, that fits in your hands and that you feel comfortable using.

No-one can tell you which camera that is. All you will get is a load of people saying buy this and buy that.

Get down to a camera shop and try all the brands and several of the ranges (budget to consumer) then you will get a good feel to what suits you.
Once you know that, come back here and say you've held such and such and liked it, now recommend me a camera within budget that feels the same.

Pretty much any DSLR ever made is good, it really does only come down to your personal preference on how they are laid out, the menu system and the weight and ergonomics of each one.

ok tom thanks for the reply i will take a trip in to cardiff tommorow to have a look at a few different cameras and lenses

cheers

I done as Tom suggested, then tried to find one second hand to see how I get on, if i get into it more, I'll treat myself to a new one.
Friend of mine liked the 1100d then picked up a twin lens kitted version off eBay that was local

Get a Halloween model. :-) Seriously, if you've got mates with cameras, perhaps go with the same system so you can share lenses etc. Get your hands on the ones you favour before buying, as some may 'feel' better than others.

thanks again for the advice you have all been very helpfull

i took a trip into cardiff today and found cameraland in the royal arcade.i got chating with the shop assistant and asked if it would be possible to have a look at a 1100d no problem he put a battery and memory card in one switched it on and started to show me some of the functions and explained a few things then he handed me the camera and as soon as i got it in my hands it felt absolutley perfect.i fired a couple of shots in the shop and it was great.

anyhow i said thanks for taking time to show me the camera and left the shop and i then five mins later realised i had only looked at one camera haha.

anyhow i like the 1100d it will be fine for me so now im faced with a dilema do i

buy a new one from cameraland for £380.00 with bag and 16gig memory card and fifty free pictures printed

or do i buy a 3 month old body 1800 actuations in mint condition with all the bits plus

one of these
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/74626/show.html

and this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Meike-Pow...tery_Grips&hash=item1c1fd5af32#ht_3823wt_1186

all boxed for £180.00 posted im finding this to be very cheap

i have seen images of the used camera and it looks to be in mint conditon and the lad has 100% feedback on ebay and the forum that we both use so i trust him in the description that he has given me.

now all i need to do is make my mind up.

thanks

Sounds like a reasonable price. If you are happy buying used and are happy the body suits you, then go for the used one.
No point spending money when you don't have too.
With eBay, if its not as described you have pretty good protection anyway, so you can always send it back.

I brought second hand from Ebay, so did a mate of mine. The Camera's were local so we could see them before handing over the money.

As long as you've read the descriptions properly, then second hand is a good starting point IMO, you can always upgrade later.

well i bought the used 1100d hopefully it will arrive tommorow it was posted yesterday.

i still need to get a couple of lenses but ill wait for the body to arrive first

thanks
